Mother Starts Vegan Meal Delivery Service for Babies

Little Harvest's founder—and former business developer at vegan cheese brand Daiya Foods—plans to make plant-based nutrition easier for families with small children.

Vegan mother Ashley Gilday will launch plant-based meal delivery service Little Harvest in Illinois later this month. Gilday worked as the North American Business Developer for vegan brand Daiya Foods before embarking on a new career inspired by her son Oskar. Gilday created Little Harvest as a way to help working families feed their children nutritious plant-based meals. The company is a subscription service—but meals are also available individually—made for children between the ages of four months and two years. The affordable plans (starting at $3.27 per day) consist of meals made with organic, local produce and allergen-free ingredients that are delivered to the customer within 24 hours of preparation in a biodegradable cooler box. The company never formulates meals with animal products, stating “It is a core value of the company and what we based our model off of.” In addition to initial online availability in Illinois, Little Harvest will be available at Chicago’s Logan Square Farmers’ Market during the summer, and Gilday has plans to expand the company to serve most of the Midwest in the next six to nine months. In its official stance published in December, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics deemed the vegan diet suitable and nutritious for all stages of life, including pregnancy and infanthood.
