LUSH Cosmetics Awards $16k to Vegan Podcast

The cosmetics brand grants funds to media non-profit Our Hen House in its mission to support compassionate changemakers.

Last week, vegan-friendly beauty brand LUSH Cosmetics granted $16,000 to animal-rights media nonprofit Our Hen House (OHH), known most for its eponymous podcast. The grant is part of LUSH’s “Charity Pot” initiative to support organizations with a focus on ending animal suffering in the food, cosmetics, and entertainment industries. “The work of OHH in creating awareness, driving discussion, and mobilizing people to work toward effectively ending animal exploitation,” LUSH’s North American Grant Specialist Erika Edwards tells VegNews, “most certainly aligns with our brand values.” In operation for eight years, OHH—and OHH-produced sister podcast Animal Law Podcast (hosted by Columbia Law School Animal Law professor Mariann Sullivan)—produces high-quality content, including weekly interviews with vegan changemakers such as Beyond Meat founder Ethan Brown; Carol Adams, author of The Sexual Politics of Meat; and anti-poaching crusader Damien Mander. “The LUSH grant will bring us to the next level of visibility so that more and more vegans and vegans-to-be can find community, insight, and fun in our programming,” OHH co-founder and co-host Jasmin Singer says. According to Singer—who is also VegNews' Senior Editor—the funds will primarily be used to increase the podcast’s listeners through targeted online outreach. The Our Hen House podcast has received three Webby honoree nods, and Singer was named a “40 Under 40” by The Advocate last year for work with the organization.
