SF Chain Adds Vegan Range-Free Chicken to Menus

Indian-inspired chain Curry Up Now serves vegan chicken from Hungry Planet in burritos, bowls, and catering menus at seven locations in the San Francisco Bay Area.

San Francisco-based fast-casual eatery Curry Up Now will be adding vegan chicken to all of its seven locations. The new option comes from vegan brand Hungry Planet—which quietly debuted vegan soy protein-based chicken, pork, and other animal-free alternatives this year made specifically for use by culinary professionals. “We are pleased to be working with Hungry Planet to bring premium plant­-based meats to the Bay Area,” Curry Up Now CEO Akash Kapoor said. “As a restaurant, we are always striving to incorporate on-trend ingredients to complement our unique take on classic Indian dishes. Hungry Planet’s Range-­Free Chicken allows us to stay on top of food trends, provide additional options for our vegan and vegetarian guests, while also furthering our commitment to being a sustainable, environmentally ­friendly concept.” Currently, Hungry Planet’s vegan chicken option—which the company spent 10 years developing—is available only at the San Mateo and San Jose locations but will be added to all of the chain’s menus in coming months.
