Vegan Grocer Opens Adjacent to MooShoes in New York City
The founders behind the iconic vegan apparel store move into the grocery industry with prepared sandwiches, snacks, pantry items, homemade soft-serve, and more!
Vegan deli Orchard Grocer will host its grand opening on March 18 in New York City. The convenience store—opened by MooShoes founders Erica and Sara Kubersky, located right next door—sells a wide variety of completely palm oil-free products, features homemade vegan soft-serve ice cream, and will serve gluten-free menu items. Customers can choose from six sandwiches (and daily specials) that include The Bowery (a breakfast option made with tofu egg, tempeh bacon, and Chao cheese), The Georgie (a caprese sandwich with Miyoko’s mozzarella cheese), and The Emma (made with pulled jackfruit, pomegranate ginger BBQ sauce, and red cabbage coleslaw). “We were constantly asked at MooShoes about places to eat in the neighborhood, and while there were options there, nothing was strictly vegan right in the neighborhood,” Erica tells VegNews, “so we decided to take this on ourselves.” Vegan establishments are rapidly growing in New York, and, according to a recent Google trends report, “vegan food” was the top search term amongst New Yorkers in 2016.
