Get Ready for a "Cow" That Makes Almond Milk

DIY Almond Cow exceeded its $10k Kickstarter goal by tenfold and promises to make homemade almond milk in 30 seconds flat.

New device Almond Cow has raised more than $100,000 on crowdfunding platform Kickstarter—exceeding its initial goal of $10,000 by 10 times. The specialized gadget (which does not require a nut bag) grinds pre-soaked almonds (and other hard tree nuts) using a coffee grinder-like device and filter that turns one-half cup of almonds into 1.3 liters of almond milk with the addition of water (and sweeteners or flavorings such as vanilla) in just 30 seconds. Additionally, the remaining pulp can be used as almond flour. Almond Cow’s machine components are easy-to-clean, and future features will include a refrigerator-friendly detachable pitcher, immersible blender head, built-in almond soaker, and timer. While none of its founders are vegan, the device was created to make almond milk more convenient and less expensive. “This device could trigger a true paradigm shift, with milk becoming something that is made fresh at home instead of bought at the store,” co-founder Peter Jin says. “This would replace the massively complex, expensive, and environmentally burdensome supply chain that defines the milk industry today.” This new gadget is yet another option for those seeking dairy-free options amidst the booming plant-based milk market. Almond Cow launched its campaign on January 12, 2017 and begins to ship to Kickstarter backers starting April 2017.
