Insurance Company Now Offers Vegans Lower Rates

New initiative Vegans Pay Less rewards Israeli residents for following a diet that decreases risk of disease and has a lower environmental impact.

Israeli-based insurance company Clal Insurance now offers life and health insurance policies for vegans at a discounted rate. Finance company Lavi established the Vegans Pay Less (VPL) initiative, as scientific research continues to prove plant-based diets are associated with a reduced risk of diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and obesity. Lavi co-CEO Uri Eshel hopes the initiative will spark a wider interest in veganism across Israel. “VPL’s ultimate goal is to promote the declaration that vegan is healthier,” Eshel said, “and the establishment of this declaration will result in the greatest wave of veganism seen in Israel until now. Because of this, we are committed to promoting the growth of special services for vegans.” To be eligible for VPL with Clal, Israeli residents must be current members of vegan associations and sign a declaration of health. “With the understanding that veganism is a global trend that is developing, especially here in Israel,” Clal deputy CEO Daniel Cohen said, “we decided to provide a solution to this segment of the market, too. Many studies reinforce the claim that a vegan lifestyle is healthier, prolongs life expectancy, and contributes to health and the environment.”
