White Castle Debuts Vegan-Friendly Impossible Sliders
The fast-food chain now offers mini plant-based burgers for $1.99 at 140 locations across New York, New Jersey, and Chicago.
As of today, Impossible Sliders are available at 140 locations of fast-food chain White Castle in New York, New Jersey, and Chicago. The chain offers the burger—made with Impossible Foods’ plant-based Impossible Burger patty—for $1.99 each (or as part of a combo meal), and serves it with smoked cheddar cheese, pickles, and onions on a signature bun. Guests can order the slider vegan by omitting the smoked cheddar cheese, with no other substitutions necessary since White Castle removed l-cystine from its buns in 2015 to make them fully vegan. “Innovation has been core to everything we’ve done at White Castle since our founding in 1921,” White Castle CEO Lisa Ingram said. “The fact that we are the first-fast food chain to offer the Impossible Burger to our loyal customers epitomizes our history of being on the ‘bleeding edge’ of a rapidly evolving industry.” Impossible Foods launched the Impossible Burger at a number of upscale restaurants in 2016 and has since expanded to 1,300 points of distribution, including fast-casual chains Bareburger, Umami Burger, Fatburger, and independent restaurants across the United States. Later this month, Impossible Foods will launch in Asia and plans to develop new plant-based alternatives akin to its flagship Impossible Burger with the mission of replacing all food animals by 2035. White Castle will test the Impossible Slider with the possibility of expanding the offering to all of its locations in future months.
