Budget Vegan Beauty Brand Hits Drugstores

Unilever's eco-friendly beauty brand, Love Beauty and Planet, is set to debut in January.

Consumer goods company Unilever’s new vegan and cruelty-free beauty brand Love Beauty and Planet will be available in drugstores nationwide starting in January. The new line’s products are packaged using 100-percent recyclable materials and are all priced below $10. The lineup of 26 hair care and shower products include conditioners that use fast-rinse, water-saving technology, shampoos made with ethically and sustainably-sourced ingredients, and body washes that contain naturally-derived cleansers. The eco-friendly brand is partnering with Ashoka, an organization supporting social entrepreneurs, to support environmental changemakers in minimizing waste and standardizing recycling labels. Love Beauty and Planet is also granting $40 per carbon ton to programs that lower carbon emissions and landfill waste. The company is focused on sustainability and has committed to sourcing its ingredients from certified sustainable sources, using at least 50 percent recycled plastic for its caps and pumps and reducing its carbon footprint by 20 percent, all by 2020. Cruelty-free beauty brand Hourglass Cosmetics has also recently used 2020 as a benchmark to pledge to go completely vegan by removing beeswax, lanolin, and carmine from its formulations.
