DIY Asian Bowl Chain Adds Vegan Meat to Menu

Wok Box in Canada sees opportunity to grow a new customer base with plant-based protein options.

Canada-based Asian-inspired chain Wok Box partnered with plant-based butcher shop YamChops to add vegan chicken to its DIY-bowl menu. The Wok Box menu allows customers to customize rice or noodle bowls with their choice of protein. YamChops’ vegan chicken can now be included in dishes such as the new General Tso, which is a blend of Wok Box’s spicy Dan Dan sauce with a sweet chili and soy-based glaze over rice, vegetables, and protein, topped with bean sprouts, green onions, cilantro, and lime, and served in an Asian food-takeout box. “We know and see firsthand the plant-based food movement is a growing, trending market that is here to stay,” Wok Box Brand Manager Diane Ty told VegNews. “We feel this is a positive growth for our brand and, frankly, is essential to our long-term sustainability as a business and as a society.” Wok Box hopes to continue expanding its plant-based protein and side options, especially in areas that offer few vegan options.
