Celebrity chef Michael Symon—an “Iron Chef” on Food Network—added the plant-based Impossible Burger patty last week to the menu of his fast-casual eatery B Spot Burgers in the Royal Oak neighborhood of Detroit. Customers can request the patty to be used in any dish on the restuarant’s menu, including adding it to the top of a salad. “I cook it up,” Symon said in a Facebook live video filmed at B Spot to promote the burger, “and it blows my mind.” Traci Des Jardins—another celebrity chef and a consultant at Impossible Foods—joined Symon in the video and stated, “I think it is the most revolutionary product I’ve seen in my almost 34 years of cooking. After working with it for a while, there is no question in my mind that this is meat.” Des Jardins was one of the first chefs to debut the Impossible Burger at her upscale San Francisco eatery Jardinière, where the burger is served vegan without modifications. Impossible Foods began increasing production at its new facility in Oakland, CA earlier this month, and company CEO Pat Brown hopes to expand the plant-based patty to 1,000 restaurants by the end of the year.
