Last week, chefs Kate Jacoby and Richard Landau—the owners of award-winning vegan restaurant Vedge in Philadelphia—opened a new restaurant concept, Fancy Radish, in Washington, DC. Jacoby and Landau currently own and operate Vedge, as well as street food concept eatery V Street, and fast-casual eatery Wiz Kid; Fancy Radish is the first operation they are opening in the nation’s capital. “We have so many people from DC who come up to Philly to dine at our restaurants,” Landau told VegNews. “So much so that it was an obvious decision to bring our food to them.” The eatery serves as a cross between the styles of Vedge and V Street, with a menu that consists of dishes that range from street food-inspired Dan Dan noodles and Peruvian potatoes to plant-forward Seared Maitake Mushroom with celery root and Rutabaga Fondue. “Think Alice in Wonderland is a foodie, a hipster, and a vegan, and this is what her tea party space would look like,” Landau said. The DC vegan food scene is expanding, with the recent opening of vegan food stall Pianta in DC’s new Tastemakers Food Hall.
