Ben & Jerry’s scoop shops nationwide now offer vegan ice cream cakes upon request. A spokesperson for Ben & Jerry’s told VegNews that all shops that carry cakes can accommodate vegan cake requests and make the frozen dessert with layers of almond milk-based ice cream and middle and bottom layers of vegan chocolate sandwich cookie crumbles (or other vegan options that vary by shop location). The cake is finished with a non-dairy frosting—which the spokesperson revealed is certified vegan. In 2016, Ben & Jerry’s launched three almond milk-based flavors: PB & Cookies, Coffee Caramel Fudge, Chunky Monkey, and Chocolate Fudge Brownie. In 2017, the brand expanded its vegan pint selection by three flavors (Cherry Garcia, Coconut Seven Layer Bar, and Caramel Almond Brittle), before adding two more vegan flavors (Cinnamon Buns and Peanut Butter Half Baked) in January. Vegan pint selections vary upon location and select shops keep a vegan ice cream cake on display to promote the new option.
