Child Nutrition Bill

Child Nutrition Bill adds vegetarian amendments.

The Child Nutrition Bill cleared the House committees with added vegetarian amendments. The $8 billion bill for the proposed Improving Nutrition for America’s Children Act now has an added $1 million vegetarian pilot program. Additionally, the committees added trial programs for increased organic foods and vegan foods. Rep. Jared Polis (D-CO) sponsors the vegetarian pilot program, and said, “If we are to be successful in curbing the childhood obesity epidemic, we need to offer students the healthiest options available, such as plant-based vegetarian options that are cholesterol-free, generally low in fat and saturated fat, lower in calories, and higher in fiber.”
