High Blood Pressure Hurts Brain Health

A new study reveals a correlation between hypertension and an increase in brain aging.

New researchers from the University of California, Davis have found a surprising link between high blood pressure, also known as hypertension, and brain health. Neurologists reported that after observing the blood pressure and brain health of 579 participants’ aged 19 to 63 years old, they found that participants with hypertension had worsened brain health. For example, a 40-year-old participant with hypertension could have a brain comparable to that of a 47-year-old, and someone with pre-hypertension could have a brain comparable to someone roughly three years older. The studies findings suggest seeking treatment for high blood pressure due to its cognitive repercussions, especially in younger persons. Whole-foods, meat- and dairy-free foods have been proven in numerous studies to regulate blood pressure and reduce risk of developing hypertension.
