Reader’s Digest Lists 11 Reasons to Go Vegan

Health, the environment, and the growing trend of going veg are among the reasons Reader’s Digest says veganism isn’t a fringe diet.

Perri Blumberg of Reader’s Digest put together a list of 11 reasons to convince folks that veganism is for everyone. Blumberg cites health as the first reason, sharing that obesity rates in vegans are low and that on average, vegans weigh between five to 20 percent less than omnivores. She also notes the lower risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease with plant-based eating. Blumberg includes fun points, as well: for example, the winner of the 10th Annual Grilled Cheese Invitational was a delicious vegan grilled cheese sandwich. Saving fossil fuels and curbing pollution make it on the list, as well as the rising number of celebrities who have committed to compassionate living.
