Avant-Garde Eco-Friendly Vegan Shoes from Rombaut

The Belgian designer released his second shoe line, inspired by polar landscapes and made from unique plant materials.

Mats Rombaut is a 26-year-old designer based in France and known for his avant-garde style and eco-conscious shoe company Rombaut. The new Spring/Summer 2014 concept titled “Walking on Thin Ice” includes all-white laced shoes and boots; Rombaut, who sources his innovative materials directly from nature (the latest collection used ivory-white Tapa cloth from mulberry tree bark, organic cotton, and Amazon latex) drew inspiration from melting glaciers, polar landscapes, and climate change. All his creations are dyed by hand in Italy and are 100-percent vegan. “What I wanted to do is make more of a statement by going green … I try to challenge the rules of traditional shoemaking,” the designer tells Interview Magazine.
