Smart spending decisions can make vegetarianism a money-saving diet.

Some tips Iyer gives include purchasing fruits and veggies that are in season, buying key protein sources such as nuts, grains, and beans, in bulk, and supporting local farmers by joining a CSA or shopping at a farmer’s market. According to Iyer, learning to cook, preparing foods in advance, and knowing when to buy organic produce are also key ways to save money.
