Vegan Weddings 2013 (Amber Sanchez & Jeff Hopwood)

Amber and Jeff’s platonic co-worker relationship evolved into so much more after the two vegans realized they were childhood neighbors.

Amber Sanchez & Jeff Hopwood

Guests: 45
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Date: January 28, 2012
Budget: $15,000

Their Story: There was no immediate spark when Amber and Jeff started working together at a bookstore. They were purely coworkers for two years before a mutual friend helped them figure out that they’d grown up in the same neighborhood. They decided to meet between their houses (which turned out to be on the exact same street!), went for a drink, and realized that despite their outward differences, they shared many of the same values. Amber had been vegan for about a year when Jeff decided he wanted to go cruelty-free as well. He knew he’d passed a turning point when he tried The Frankenstand hot dogs for the first time and realized that “living without meat isn’t scary.”

The Big Day: This playful partnership wanted a wedding that would be fun for guests, so they chose the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles as the backdrop for their ceremony and reception. Attendees were given carte blanche to wander around and explore the exhibits. The ceremony was accented by tunes from an iPod, and a ring warming ritual took place in the Grand Foyer beneath the T. rex and triceratops. Amber and Jeff both wrote their own vows, but Jeff was slightly flummoxed when Amber read hers first and he realized that she had unintentionally stolen many of his lines, some of them word for word.
