Vegan television personality Ellen DeGeneres and her companion-animal food company Halo, Purely for Pets, are teaming up with the Petco Foundation to host a competition that will award animal-welfare groups thousands of dollars this holiday season. On a recent episode of her talk show, DeGeneres called for organizations to submit photos, videos, and stories that portray their greatest animal accomplishments. The organization that places first will receive a $100,000 grant while the second- and third-place organizations will receive $50,000 and $25,000 respectively; in total, 10 organizations will get a total of $250,000 in funding. “We want to help all of the pet shelters that help animals and do good every year,” says DeGeneres. “The Petco Foundation wants to award deserving animal shelters.”
