Vegan artist Sue Coe will receive the 2013-2014 Arts Award from Dickinson College for drawing and printmaking. Coe’s works have gained renown for their powerful depictions of the animal agriculture industry’s violence toward animals and subsequent profiteering. Her latest work “Cruel” shows an emaciated calf bleeding from the neck, as a man with a suit and top hat collects money. The Arts Award was conceived in 1959 and its past recipients include poet Robert Frost and avant garde musician John Cage. Dickinson’s selected artist will spend a few days at the college interacting with students teaching and sharing insights.
