Elementary School Cancels SeaWorld Field Trip

Students and parents of Point Dume Marine Science Elementary School say “no” to another field trip to SeaWorld.

SeaWorld continues to experience a decline in business as the documentary Blackfish sways public opinion of the animal entertainment theme park. Recently, numerous bands, ranging from country legend Willie Nelson to female-fronted rock group Heart, nixed their upcoming gigs at SeaWorld, and now an elementary school in Malibu has cancelled its annual field trip there. Rebecca Johnson, the principal at Point Dume Marine Science Elementary School, told CNN that the students’ parents convinced the school to cancel its trip, but the news source also notes that one particular student, 10-year-old Kirra Kotler, also played a significant role in the school’s change of heart. Kotler saw Blackfish and was adamant about sharing it with her friends and insisting that the school plan a different location for this year’s field trip. She's very shy,” Kirby’s father told CNN. “But she finally found her voice.”
