Last week, a fire killed approximately 300,000 chickens at S&R Egg Farm in Whitewater, WI. At approximately 7:45 pm, the local fire department got a call that a barn had ignited, and the structure was completely engulfed in flames by the time they arrived. Fire departments from numerous surrounding towns including White Water, East Troy, and La Grange battled to save the 13 remaining barns along with the egg processing facility and company offices. S&R is an 800-acre family-owned business that has been in operation for three generations spanning nearly 60 years. According to the company’s website, no people were injured, and S&R plans to continue its operations and rebuild the lost barn.
