This Weekend: 7th Annual Vegan Prom in Portland, OR

This weekend, the vegan community in Portland, OR will have a chance to relive their high-school proms—but in a slightly different way. To cap off the week-long, city-wide ”Try Vegan PDX” campaign, prom-goers will celebrate over vegan food and drinks, dancing, a costume contest, a photo booth, and a raffle complete with vegan prizes. Held at the city’s Moxie Studio, the theme of the 2014 prom is “Masquerade”—and guests are encouraged to dress up. According to event organizer Deanna Cintas, “A lot of vegans in Portland, they like to drink, they like to dance, and go out and stay out late. It seemed like a pretty fitting celebration.” Vegan proms have sprung up in other cities around the country, including Los Angeles and New York.
