The Humane Society Legislative Fund (HSLF)—part of the Humane Society of the United States—published a Humane Scorecard earlier this year to document the voting patterns of current senate members in regard to animal-rights legislation. For the 2015 edition, HSLF gathered all pro-animal legislation presented before the 113th Congress in 2014, which included the Captive Primate Safety Act, the Egg Products Inspection Act, and the Animal Fighting Spectator Prohibition Act. Senate members were awarded points for supporting animal welfare legislation and received extra points for leading as a prime sponsor on all pro-animal legislation. Vegan Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), presidential candidate Bernie Sanders (I-VT), and Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) all received a perfect 100 score. The 2015 Scorecard will be released in early 2016 and will reveal voting patterns on legislation such as Idaho’s ag-gag law, which was overturned in federal court earlier this year.
