Jon Stewart Mentions Veganism During Emmy Speech

Former Daily Show host Jon Stewart dedicated a portion of his minute-long Emmy award acceptance speech Sunday to veganism. In his usual comedic and sarcastic tone, the newly-retired funnyman said that while the world outside of TV studios had food on tables, “you can’t just take it … it costs money, and very little of it is gluten-free and vegan.” Earlier this year, Stewart purchased land in his home state of New Jersey with plans to start an animal sanctuary. Along with singer Morrissey, Stewart and his wife Tracey—whose book Do Unto Animals is slated for release on October 20—will be honored for their compassionate efforts toward farmed animals at an October 24 event hosted by Farm Sanctuary.
