Washington Post Promotes Plant-Based Diet for Children

In the midst of numerous new studies and suggestions to avoid meat products, one writer discusses why her child is vegan.

In a Sunday Washington Post story, writer Miriam Porter responded to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) recommendation that people reduce the consumption of processed meat by explaining how happy she is knowing she and her son are vegan. For Porter, the WHO announcement confirmed that processed meat was “extremely unhealthy” and that recent studies such as this one are not presenting new information. To help others enjoy a plant-based lifestyle, she outlined four useful vegan grocery store tips and explained how numerous plant-based meat alternatives are often cheaper than meat, mentioning veg favorites such as Tofurky, Field Roast, and Yves, as well as plant-based protein sources such as legumes, nuts, grain, and vegetables. “If kids knew the truth about factory farming and where their bacon and hot dogs came from,” Porter wrote, “(and) how the animals suffered terribly, there is a good chance these kids would choose not to eat meat on their own.”
