WhiteWave Foods—owners of vegan products such as Silk, Vega, and So Delicious—has seen its net sales increase to $1 billion for the first time, thanks in part to its plant-based acquisitions. CEO Gregg Engles said the company’s vegan food and beverage platform saw sales skyrocket 41 percent in the third quarter. “We’re very, very pleased with how plant-based is performing overall,” he said. “What you’re seeing is a natural evolution of these businesses as these categories get large and as household penetration builds toward maybe its more natural level.” Engles also expressed interest in capitalizing upon the momentum of vegan alternatives and pushing products beyond grocery store shelves, saying that testing of “more convenient on-the-go formats” of Silk products is currently underway.
