In a recent feature dedicated to restaurant week—a nationwide food festival wherein restaurants offer deals on meals—Wisconsin’s Madison Magazine dedicated an equal amount of space to spotlight standout veggie options in the area. Under the “veggie lover” logo, the publication highlighted three exceptional restaurants including Peruvian eatery Inka Heritage, Japanese restaurant Umami Ramen & Dumpling Bar, and creole kitchen Liliana’s, which will offer a three-course vegan menu for both lunch ($15) and dinner ($25). The purpose of restaurant week is to entice residents to patronize local eateries by offering low prices and creative menu items. In addition to this feature, vegan awareness and options have sprouted in the Midwest with the opening of Dr. Joel Khan’s Green Space Café near Detroit, famed cookbook author Isa Chandra Moskowitz’s restaurant Modern Love Omaha, and Iowa ice cream company Wells Blue Bunny testing four vegan flavors last year.
