Pamela Anderson Urges Prison System to Adopt Vegan Menu

Actress/activist petitions Louisiana governor to implement a vegan menu at state prisons, saying it will save taxpayers money.

Actress/activist Pamela Anderson recently penned a letter to Louisiana’s new governor John Bel Edwards, urging him to implement vegan menus at the state’s 12 prisons. Anderson explained that such a move would save taxpayers upwards of $620,000, and said that, “Beans, rice, lentils, pasta, potatoes and other vegetables, and oranges and other fruits have all the nutrients a person needs but at a fraction of the price of meats and cheeses.” Furthermore, Anderson revealed that this practical switch would not only have immediate budget benefits but would further save the state money on prisoners’ health-care in the long run. Anderson even offered to inaugurate the program by cooking and serving meals to the inmates herself. In recent years, Anderson has actively lent her fame to bring light to issues such as foie gras consumption in France, animal agriculture’s effect on the California drought, and Japanese whale hunting.
