Jon Stewart Helps Save Runaway Bull From Slaughterhouse

Frank Lee, an Angus bull, escaped his fate at the hands of a butcher and ran free in New York, before arriving at his new permanent home at Farm Sanctuary.

Comedian Jon Stewart made headlines last week when he and his wife Tracey saved a runaway bull who had escaped from a slaughterhouse in Queens, NY. New York City authorities received reports Friday morning of the black-and-white Angus bull racing down city streets before stopping at a nearby college campus and being apprehended by police. The animal—nicknamed Frank Lee—had escaped a livestock holding area at the Jamaica-Archer Halal Live Poultry and Meat Market before being taken to a local animal care center where staff pooled money to save him from slaughter. Frank Lee was spared at no cost, however, and a few hours later was picked up by the Stewarts and ushered to a Farm Sanctuary shelter in upstate New York. "Frank is now safe, happy and feeling much more secure at Cornell University Equine and Farm Animal Hospital, where he is being checked out before coming to Farm Sanctuary, his forever home in Watkins Glen, NY," Farm Sanctuary wrote on a social media post. "Here, he will soon join his new herd and cattle family. Here he will have lifelong care. And here, he can live in peace." The rescue comes more than two months after Freddie the cow escaped from the same slaughterhouse and led police on a similar pursuit before being released into the care of Skylands Animal Sanctuary in New Jersey.
