Portland, OR was just named the most vegan-friendly city in the United States by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) … and with the help of Paul McCartney. At a sold-out concert in Portland, the famous Beatle had PETA Vice President Dan Mathews join him on stage to present Mayor Charlie Hales with the award and a bouquet of roses carved out of vegetables. The Pacific Northwest city’s array of vegan eateries—including barbecue joint Homegrown Smoker, Vtopia Restaurant & Cheese Shop, and fine-dining spot Farm Spirit—along with an entire plant-based strip mall, summer camp, and strip club helped Portland garner the award. Other cities making the list of best vegan cities include Los Angeles, Chicago, Honolulu, and San Diego.
