Philadelphia’s first vegan mac n’ cheese competition—The Philly MAC-Down—went down last month, and contestant LJ Steinig took the top spot with a veganized version of her mother’s mac n’ cheese recipe. According to Philly.com, the event was hosted by vegan store V Marks the Shop and welcomed nine contestants who showcased creative variations of the popular dish—including People’s Choice winners Brittany and Terrence Roche, who served their entry with coconut bacon crumbled on top. Philadelphia is known for its growing vegan scene and a similar contest—with Philly Cheesesteaks as the theme—was held last month.
