Upcoming Jurassic World 2 Film to Address Animal Rights

Film's producer reveals the blockbuster hit's sequel will rely on dinosaurs to highlight the plight of modern-day animals used for experimentation and entertainment.

The upcoming sequel to the 2015 film Jurassic World will revolve around issues of animal-rights and welfare, the film’s producer revealed this week. Speaking at the recent Sitges Film Festival in Spain, producer Colin Trevorrow said the film’s storyline “will be a parable of the treatment animals receive today,” before hinting at exploring themes related to animals abused in entertainment, medical experimentation, and the military. Trevorrow’s thematic focus stands to reach a large audience, as 1993’s Jurassic Park was one of the highest grossing films in history, while Jurassic World reeled in $1.7 billion at the box office worldwide. In addition to writing animal-rights issues into storylines, filmmakers are moving away from using live wild animals in movies, as director Jon Favreau chose to do in his film adaptation of The Jungle Book. Actors Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are confirmed to play leading roles in Jurassic World 2 which premieres in theaters June 22, 2018.
