Canada-based vegan company Gusta Foods plans to open a plant-based butcher shop at the Jean-Talon Market in Montreal at the end of this year. At the permanent location, the company—which has offered their products online and at local grocery stores since January 2016—will sell non-GMO cashew milk-based meltable cheeses, seitan-based meats, and sausage links by weight, along with prepared dishes such as poutine, grilled cheese sandwiches, and microbrewed beer. Gusta Foods will be the second plant-based butcher shop to open in Canada following Ontario-based YamChops—which plans to expand to 50 locations in North America in the coming years after receiving $250,000 on financial reality show Dragon’s Den last year. Stateside, along with Minneapolis, MN-based Herbivorous Butcher and Berkeley, CA-based The Butcher’s Son, two new vegan butcher shops—Atlas Meat-Free Delicatessen in Miami, FL, and Monk’s Vegan Delicatessen and Kitchen in Brooklyn, NY—are slated to open in the coming months.
