Musician supplies company D’Addario Accessories released Beatles-themed guitar picks and straps last month. The company chose to use faux leather for the new line to honor Beatles’ guitarist Paul McCartney. “We chose to use vegan materials for these Beatles straps, keeping in line with Paul McCartney’s long-established animal rights beliefs and activities,” the company’s product manager Daniel Cunningham tells VegNews. The faux leather straps feature designs of iconic images from album covers including “Meet the Beatles,” “Revolver,” “Yellow Submarine,” and “Sgt. Pepper.” Four polyester straps were re-released with imagery from the band’s “White Album” and other Beatles logos. The picks bear similar imagery, and are available in collectible tins. McCartney has used his fame to speak up for animals through various campaigns including Meatless Mondays, partnerships with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, and perhaps most famously by simply uttering, “If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be vegetarian.”
