Online Retailer for Prada and Gucci Goes Fur-Free

In an effort to sway luxury designers to use fur-free materials, high-end fashion retailer Yoox Net-A-Porter will no longer sell items made from animal fur.

This week, Yoox Net-A-Porter Group (YNP), owner of multi-brand online stores Net-A-Porter, Mr. Porter, Yoox and The Outnet, announced it would ban the sale of fur. The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and Humane Society International (HSI) worked with the company—which sells brands such as Prada, Gucci, and Michael Kors—for several years to eliminate fur. “We hope this fur-free announcement will send a strong signal to these and other designers about the growing consumer and industry trend away from animal fur and toward animal protection sensibilities,” HSUS CEO Wayne Pacelle said. In recent years, luxury retailers such as Armani, Hugo Boss, and VF Corporation—parent company of North Face, Timberland, and Wrangler—have made similar commitments to remove fur from their fashion lines.
