Los Angeles-based shoe brand Hound & Hammer debuted the Grover-Vegan boot style as part of its summer collection. The new vegan boot is available for $99 in three colors—charcoal, sage brown, and sandstone—and is a cruelty-free take on the company’s best-selling style, the Grover. To make the Grover-Vegan, the company swapped the leather upper for a burnished coarse-weave canvas and the calf skin lining for a cotton canvas. “After many requests from our vegan friends for a boot they could call their own,” co-founder Chris Ryan tells VegNews, “we decided to reinvent our best-selling, most comfortable ‘Grover’ style using all durable and lightweight vegan materials.” While Hound & Hammer is not a vegan brand, the Grover-Vegan proves that the fashion industry is changing to serve cruelty-free demands. French Vogue’s August issue is dedicated to animals and features supermodel Gisele Bündchen on its cover wearing faux fur as a statement against animal cruelty in the fashion industry.
