Office Manager

If you’re a customer service whiz with a creative streak who thrives on multitasking, this could be your dream job. As office manager, you'll keep busy but still have fun while ensuring our editorial headquarters run like a well-oiled machine. You'll learn new skills, work on a variety of exciting projects, and have the satisfaction of seeing your efforts make a difference. Specific Responsibilities Include:

• Answering phones
• Assisting VN readers with questions
• Processing, packaging and shipping back issue and gift orders
• Researching new vegetarian products and books
• Assisting with marketing and public relations efforts
• Prepare media kits, invoices, and contributor packets
• Data entry
• Ordering products from vendors
• Light bookkeeping

Job Requirements:

• Highly organized
• Excellent interpersonal/communication skills
• Problem-solving and multi-tasking skills
• Be technologically savvy
• Positive attitude
• Be self-motivated and a team player
• Manage tasks and deliverables independently
• Knowledge of vegetarianism is a plus
• Knowledge of FileMaker Pro, Excel & Word is a plus

This position is full-time at our San Francisco offices located on Ocean Beach. Senior Designer

Are you a designer with exceptional design skills and at least 3 years magazine experience? Would you like to work for a socially conscious, progressive, San Francisco-based business? VegNews is seeking a full-time designer at its Sunset/Parkside District offices.

The ideal candidate will be a team player and possess a high degree of professionalism, independence, organization, and reliability, as well as a positive attitude and an appreciation of a good challenge. Excellent design skills are of the utmost: the candidate’s portfolio should demonstrate a solid facility for conceptualizing, layout design, typography, color and branding. Additional production skills and prepress/printing knowledge are critical. You would be the only designer on the project but will have the option of working with interns, if desired.

Primary Responsibilities
• Manage entire design process of magazine (one issue is published every 9 weeks and is currently 100 pages in length) which includes photography selection, conceptualizing, design, selection of colors, artworking, pre-press preparation, etc.
• Initiate design solutions independently and within team settings
• Conceptualization and production of marketing collateral materials (insert cards, trade show materials, print and banner ads, etc.)
• Ensure projects are on time and within budget

Minimum Requirements
• Minimum 3 years working in a magazine environment
• BA in Graphic Design or related field
• Thorough knowledge of OSX, QuarkXpress or InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat
• Strong people skills and the ability to interact positively both internally and with vendors and advertisers
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Smart work, enthusiasm and great ideas
• An interest in promoting vegetarianism. Knowledge of vegetarian issues a plus.
• Ability to prioritize

This is a full-time contract position with potential for permanent employment. Salary range is $40 to $45k. We offer a host of benefits to ensure a fulfilling experience.
