International fashion brand, Esprit, has launched a vegan collection of leather-free shoes for women, complete with a PETA-approved hangtag on every pair. Available online and at select retail stores throughout Europe, the shoes are made with eco-friendly faux leather and canvas. According to Esprit’s Martin Krist, “We are happy about the opportunity to work with PETA on more transparency in textile labeling and thus better inform our conscious consumers.” Approximately 1.6 billion cows are killed every year for their skins—80 percent in developing countries like India, China, and Bangladesh where animal welfare laws are non-existent or not enforced.
