A San Francisco tourist’s checklist would look something like this: Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge, Lombard Street—and for vegans, Millennium Restaurant. Located in the Hotel California (really), Executive Chef Eric Tucker has—for 20 years now—gloriously accomplished his vision of serving exquisite plant-based cuisine. Though unquestionably an upscale restaurant with complex, innovative, and gorgeously plated dishes, Millennium patrons are clad in anything from gowns to jeans while dining at elgant tables or at the zinc-copper bar surrounding an open kitchen, setting a friendly, inviting vibe. Every element shines, from the exhaustive organic, vegan wine list to the decadent desserts. The greatest testament to Millennium’s culinary mastery, however, may be its bi-monthly Convert a Carnivore night: so powerful is this food that lives are changed after a single meal. Surely we would realize a vegan world more quickly if everyone could dine at Millennium, just once. Congratulations, Millennium, for setting the table and raising the bar of what vegan dining could be. To view photos from Millennium’s 20th Anniversary click here.
