According to a recent Gallup Poll, support for animal rights among Americans has risen by 25 percent since 2008. Nearly one-third (32 percent) of those surveyed in 2015 agreed with the statement that “animals should be given the same rights as people”—which is up seven percentage points compared to the responses of those surveyed seven years ago. Despite rising awareness of factory farming conditions, the poll also showed that people are generally more concerned about animals used in research and entertainment (such as circuses, marine parks, sports, and zoos) than they are about the mistreatment of animals used for food.
