Wedding Day Highlights: Creating the ethical wedding of their dreams took both homework and leg work, from finding the perfect faux-silk dress to choosing the elegant vegan menu. With a ceremony in Central Park’s Shakespeare Garden, and a reception in SoHo, this very personalized wedding was further enhanced as April and Will rode through the busy New York City streets and total strangers slowed their hectic pace to wave and congratulate the couple as they passed. Despite a forecast of showers that had threatened to dampen the outdoor ceremony, the day was sunny and beautiful. When everyone was indoors at the reception, it rained for a short time, after which a rainbow spread across the sky.

Their Story: Will never had any animal companions or connections to animals, but all that changed after he met April. In fact, their rescued dog, Frankie, was instrumental in Will’s transition to a vegetarian lifestyle. With Frankie such a huge part of their lives, they wanted his story to be reflected throughout the wedding. The theme of compassion and awareness of animal issues was included in the save-the-date cards, favors, guest books and even the cake, which was decorated with a bride, groom and dog—complete with a tiny “used” fire hydrant. Although Frankie did not attend the wedding, April and Will wanted his presence felt. After the wedding, several guests were eager to learn more about becoming vegetarian and others vowed to only adopt dogs from shelters.
