Elizabeth J. Harper & Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich
August 21, 2005
Cleveland, Ohio
337 Guests
Honeymoon: Lake Erie Islands, Ohio
Wedding Day Highlights: Elizabeth and Dennis were married on the Mall in downtown Cleveland, where the space had an open, cathedral feel. They were surrounded by flower-filled urns, the graceful Peace Memorial Fountain, and Lake Erie to the north. The guest list included celebrities such as Shirley MacLaine and Sean Penn, but the highlights didnt stop there. Several people had suggested that Elizabeth and Dennis release doves at the wedding, but their vegan ethics made this idea unthinkable. Later, when guests praised the doves that appeared to have been released during the ceremony, the couple was puzzled. Amazingly, a flock of wild birds had spontaneously gathered and circled over the bride and groomnot once, but twicehonoring the couple with a phenomenal avian display as they exchanged vows.
Their Story: Two weeks after leaving her native England for a job in the U.S. with the American Monetary Institute, Elizabeth met the congressman when she went to his Capitol Hill office for a business meeting. There was a mutual attraction and an immediate soul-level connection. Three months later, they were married. Despite diverse backgrounds and a 30-year age difference, Elizabeth and Dennis have much in common, including a concern for the environment, a desire to work for peace and monetary reform and a deep spirituality informed by Eastern traditions. Veganism can be added to that list as well, since Elizabeth became vegan after being inspired by Dennis' commitment to a plant-based diet.
