Leanne Hilgart & Nathanael Meyer
May 14, 2005
Mount Prospect, Ill.
165 Guests
Honeymoon: Caribbean
Wedding Day Highlights: This was a day filled with personal touches and sentimental symbolism, including a vegan mermaid-style wedding dress that Leanne had custom made and a special antique music box to hold the rings. The ceremony was truly a family affair, with Leannes 14-year-old dog Cocoa as flower girl, wearing an orchid collar and pink tutu, and Nates eight-month-old nephew Jacob as ring bearer, entering in a wagon. Nates siblings walked down the aisle playing string instruments, and his brother Ben wrote and performed two original songs. The couple wrote their own ceremony, which included a community blessing where guests passed candlelight to each other and conveyed warm wishes to the couple.
Their Story: As resident advisors in college, Leanne and Nates paths seemed destined to cross, especially since they were chosen not only to be on the same staff, but to live on the same floor. From their first encounter, Leanne knew Nate would become her best friend. They met again when Nates fraternity volunteered at the animal shelter with Leannes animal rights group. Later, he asked if he could volunteer with her group again, to fulfill service hours for his fraternity. Little did she know, all his hours had already been fulfilled.
