Lin Bernhardt & Lynn Hill
September 9, 2006
Jacksonville, Ore.
Guests: 110
Wedding Day Highlights: Lin and Lynn were married to the sounds of a classical string trio at an historic bed and breakfast surrounded by beautiful Oregon gardens and antique farm buildings. A Peruvian shamans apprentice opened the ceremony with a slow, single drumbeat, while a minister with a background in Buddhism, Native American and traditional spirituality conducted the ceremony, calling in the seven directions and speaking of the couples love and compassion for all beings. Bride and groom even signed their marriage license on a bale of hay in an historic barn. After a fabulous Mediterranean-style dinner that drew countless compliments, Lin and Lynn danced the evening away under the magical Oregon stars. In lieu of gifts, guests were encouraged to make a donation to one of the couples favorite charities. Altogether, $2,500 was raised for In Defense of Animals, Natural Resources Defense Council and Doctors Without Borders.
Their Story: Lin and Lynn met through the Jackson County Sustainability Network, but they made their love connection at a talk given by the local lamas from the Tibetan Buddhist monastery. Lynn told Lin he would email her the link to a talk by the Dali Lama and they never stopped emailing. He was so perfect in so many ways, says Lin, but when he told me he was vegetarian I almost fainted! One of their first vows to each other was to become vegan. Now even their 117-pound Great Pyrenees, Jack, is vegetarian.
