The Compton Unified School District, which has 35 schools in its jurisdiction, is now bringing Meatless Mondays to its cafeterias. The California district joins countless academic institutions including the Los Angeles Unified School District, Detroit Public Schools, the Buffalo Public School District, as well as hundreds of colleges across the country in embracing the vegetarian campaign. Meatless Mondays was started in 2003 at Johns Hopkins University, and since then it has been adopted by a variety of businesses and schools due to the myriad health benefits it yields.
