Animal-welfare organization Animal Place recently rescued 3,000 egg-laying hens from a California hen farm where for 2 years the hens lived in small, cramped cages. This week, the rescued hens will be transported to sanctuaries to receive treatment and care and to live out their natural lives in peace. Of the 3,000, 1,000 hens will be delivered to Animal Place’s Rescue Ranch Shelter to join 580 other rescued factory farm hens, and an additional group of 1,000 hens will be flown to the east coast and placed in well-known animal sanctuaries such as the Catskill Animal Sanctuary and Woodstock Animal Farm Sanctuary. Animal Place attributes the success of the rescue operation to the collaboration of various animal shelters and sanctuaries.
