Due to popular demand, a popular Dallas-based pizza chain is introducing vegan pizza to its menu. Spanning 24 states, all 87 locations of Pie Five Pizza will carry Daiya’s Classic Blend Shreds—a mix of the company’s Mozzarella and Cheddar style options—to top its already-vegan crusts and five veg-friendly sauces. ”The vegan trend is expanding,” vice president of research and development Patty Scheibmeir told CultureMap. “We hear it from young people, women, millennials, and we’re working on more options.” Scheibmeir credited Daiya’s appearance and its melty and stretchy qualities as to why it was chosen for Pie Five’s pizzas. The new addition follows a burgeoning national trend—fast-casual pizza chains (such as Pieology and Blaze Pizza) offering wood-fired customized personal-sized pies and adding vegan cheese to its menus.
