In a recent interview with media outlet Quartz, vegan milk company Milkadamia CEO Jim Richards revealed that his flagship macadamia nut-based milk will debut at Walmart in January. The company takes a creative approach in its marketing of vegan milk by tapping into sarcastic cliches that surround the “clean eating” movement. Richards markets Milkadamia’s products as being sourced from “free-range trees,” explaining that the macadamia-nut trees Milkadamia uses are not linked to irrigation systems—which often deplete aquifers. The company also advertises its vegan milk as a replacement for dairy, stating that “milk is moot.” Milkadamia debuted two years ago, and its four flavors—Original, Unsweetened, Unsweetened Vanilla, and Latte Da—are currently available at 5,000 retail outlets, including nationwide independent grocers and Amazon.com.
