Food technology startup JUST sold 225 vegan egg sandwiches within the first 25 minutes of the company’s launch event at the Grand Hyatt hotel in Singapore last weekend. The sandwiches—which featured a patty made with the company’s mung bean-based JUST Egg—were available at the JUST truck parked outside of the hotel, where the team sold more than 3,400 during the course of the three-day event. During the event, the Grand Hyatt celebrated World Vegan Day with a sold-out vegan barbeque that treated guests to JUST Egg sandwiches, plant-based sushi, and a Future of Food discussion that featured a lecture by JUST Chief Business Development Officer Rakesh Jain. “Consumers around the world are changing their eating habits as more and better plant-based foods are being made available in restaurants, hotels, schools, at work, and at home,” JUST Head of Communications Andrew Noyes told VegNews. “Nowhere is that more evident than in Southeast Asia, where products like the JUST Egg are debuting to rave reviews.” The JUST Egg sandwich—made with vegan cheddar, tomato chutney, guacamole, alfalfa sprouts, and served on a dairy-free brioche bun—is now available on the permanent menu at the Grand Hyatt’s casual dining restaurant Oasis. “We are delighted to spearhead this food revolution in South East Asia with the launch of JUST Egg,” Jerome Pagnier, Director of Food & Beverage at the Grand Hyatt Singapore, said. “And be at the forefront of change as we continue to provide a more inclusive dining experience for all.” The launch event garnered interest from other local hotels and restaurants, many of which are considering adding JUST Egg to their menus in coming months. “We’re thrilled that Singaporeans enjoyed their first taste of JUST Egg, and we’re looking forward to expanding its availability there and throughout the region,” Noyes said.
